Ignoring the fact he is a 7-1 favourite, middleweight champion Anderson (The Spider) Silva praised Canadian Patrick (The Predator) Cote as a tough opponent yesterday and said the Montrealer’s direct style should make for a great fight at UFC 90 Saturday night.
The hard-hitting Brazilian is 7-0 in the UFC and only three of his opponents have made it out of the first round. The bookmakers are not giving Cote much of a chance to blot that mixed martial arts record, although some fighters believe Cote’s standup skills give him a shot at the Allstate Arena (available on pay-per-view).
Middleweight Drew McFedries knows all about Cote’s power. He was knocked out by the Canadian in January.
“I give Cote a great shot at this,” McFedries said. “If he does the right things, he can win this match.”
Said lightweight Tyson Griffin: “I think it’s going to be a good fight, two strikers that are wanting to bang. Expect to see fireworks and probably a knockout in that one.”
